For years I've struggled to find my rhythm as a writer until I started a company enabling the future of work.
The Internet Rewards Focus
Previously I couldn't focus my writing. I've written about energy, AI, Mars colonization, future political systems, and more. But the internet doesn't reward unknown writers that go broad, you gotta niche down.
Recently I committed to writing short daily posts. Daily writing allowed me to go real broad before narrowing in.
Remote work, VR, and entrepreneurship felt good to write about and resonated with readers. I happen to also be running a remote only startup building VR software so my credibility is high in these topics, another thing the internet tends to reward.
Find the intersection of your interests
More interestingly I began to see that my sweet spot within the broad domain of "the future", really lies in "the future of work" and my unique outlook on it: remote first, VR enabled, pro entrepreneurship, and a dash of open source 2.0 thrown in.
While I'll probably still write about other topics 25% of the time, I'm excited to explore the future of work and the unique insights I'll uncover by writing about it.
I'll continue writing fiction too. First, because it's fun to write. Second, because it's the best way to show, not tell, the reader the concepts I like to imagine around the way we'll work in the future.
🕶 Magic Leap 2 now supports OpenXR
Magic Leap is an important player in the enterprise AR space and has a solid device in the ML2. They’re a bit delayed in supporting OpenXR, but I’m glad they are. Hopefully, but unlikely, Apple will also support OpenXR.
🚀 SpaceX Starship blows up, but still wins
SpaceX launched the world’s largest rocket. It did clear the takeoff platform, then things went sideways and it blew up. SpaceX figures they’ll blow up a few more in testing, so they already have more built. Starship, when fully running will completely change space travel again, just as SpaceX’s previous rockets have. SpaceX can blow up a spaceship and still be winning, it’s all just data for now.
📚 Bill Gates says AIs will teach kids to read
Neal Stephenson first wrote about this in The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer an excellent novel where the protagonist learns not only how to read, but a ton of other things too through an AI book. Great sci-fi novel and my favorite from Neal Stephenson, I might read it again soon!
Gates must have read it as now he’s being quoted saying AI will teach kids to read.
Can’t wait to read The Diamond Age. Thanks for the recommendation.
