My name is Dave, and I'm the last human with a job.
You see, at one point in time, we tried to legislate that AIs must work hand-in-hand with humans, attempting to retain jobs for our kind. But as the AIs got better and better, we increased the ratio of how many AI agents could work per human.
Eventually, there just weren't enough jobs for everyone. The entire capitalist system crumbled, replaced by a system that paid dividends to people just to be themselves and do whatever they wanted.
No one works anymore, except me. Every weekday morning, I take a run, eat breakfast with my wife and kids, then go in my office, put the trodes on my head, close my eyes and jack into the sim for a few hours.
My team, Jenny, Sam, April and I run the last human-inclusive mega corp — I checked, I'm the last human working.
My human friends make fun of me, but I enjoy my AI friends' company and running the business. The AIs could run the company without me, like all the other mega corps. Hell, even the government is completely AI controlled.
I'm not sure why I do it, maybe I just need more hobbies.

IBM's CEO just came out and said they're halting hiring for jobs that AI can do (Bloomberg).
Very soon AI will be able to do a lot of jobs. Maybe most of the current jobs. So future employment at IBM isn't looking good if you were thinking of getting hired there.
Will AI create new jobs?
Yes, but probably not more than it kills.
Those of us that keep jobs will be experts at leveraging AIs and maybe creating connections mentally that AIs struggle with. Even that last one seems like a stretch, since AIs can often make connections we mere humans just can't see.
So no jobs, no money, no buying things, capitalism's gonna die.
I'm not arguing for an end to capitalism today, I kinda like it. It's working for me, but it's not working for a lot of folks and it's probably gonna get a lot worse with AI.
If, and I don't think this is a big if, the AIs take over most available jobs we're just gonna have to give people money. UBI or maybe a complete overhaul of the economic system towards some Star Trekonomics system.
Funny enough, AIs lower the cost of doing business, so it'll be capitalism's embrace of AI that eventually kills it. Oh the irony.

🍎 AI overhauls education
On a positive note, Sal Khan of Khan Academy did a Ted Talk on putting AI into kid’s educations.

VR AI romance 😘🤖
And so it begins, next step is the movie Her.
⚛ Nuclear energy growing in the US
Interesting read from an unlikely source, Vox. If we’re serious about lowering carbon emissions though, we’ll embrace nuclear.
Will AI create new jobs?
Yes, but probably not more than it kills.
You have most likely hit the nail directly on the head with this.....
Excellent story, Daniel - or perhaps prognostication...
